Awareness Program on Zoonotic Diseases

On February 29, 2024, BANAVI Social Welfare Trust, in partnership with East West First Grade College (EWFGC), organized an insightful “Awareness Program on Zoonotic Diseases” to commemorate National Science Day 2024. The event took place at 10 AM in the Vivekananda Seminar Hall, EWFGC. National Science Day, celebrated on February 28, marks the discovery of the Raman effect by Indian physicist Sir C.V. Raman in 1928, highlighting the significance of scientific research and innovation.

The program attracted students from the life sciences and management streams and featured two expert talks that fostered scientific inquiry. Dr. Amitha Reena Gomes, Associate Professor at IAH&VB, Bengaluru, delivered an informative lecture on “Rabies,” discussing its causes, symptoms, and prevention strategies. Dr. Rudramurthy GR, Senior Scientist in Virology at the Foundation for Neglected Diseases, shared insights on “Drug Discovery: Process and Challenges,” emphasizing the complexities and opportunities in the field.

This initiative aimed to educate students about zoonotic diseases, promote scientific awareness, and inspire future generations to pursue careers in science and research. Several competitions, including science exhibitions, quiz contests, essay writing, debate competitions, and model-making contests, were organized for UG and PG students of EWFGC on the occasion of National Science Day 2024. These events were designed to encourage students to showcase their scientific knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills. The winners were awarded with prizes and certificates in appreciation to their scientific talents.

We extended our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Amitha Reena Gomes and Dr. Rudramurthy GR for sharing their expertise and inspiring aspiring scientists. The event’s success reflects EWFGC’s commitment to nurturing a culture of scientific excellence and curiosity among students and faculty. The competitions fostered a deeper understanding of science and encouraged students to engage with the subject in a creative and interactive manner.
