Fermented Food Festival 2024

BANAVI Social Welfare Trust, in association with East West First Grade College (EWFGC), organized the Fermented Food Festival 2024 at the East West College Campus on 9th February 2024 at 1.00 p.m. The event aimed to raise awareness about the health benefits of fermented foods and educate graduate students and staff on incorporating them into their daily diets.

The program was inaugurated by Dr. Channakeshavalu, Principal of EWIT, and Dr. Kumara Swamy, Principal of EWFGC. Faculty, staff, and students actively participated in the festival. Students showcased various types of fermented foods, explaining their preparation, health benefits, and applications. Some groups used charts and visual aids to demonstrate the process and significance of fermentation.

Fermented foods like yogurt, kimchi, kefir, and pickles are rich in probiotics, which help maintain gut health and boost overall well-being. The festival emphasized how fermentation enhances both the flavour and nutritional value of foods. It also highlighted the growing body of research connecting gut health to mental well-being, suggesting that fermented foods may contribute to better mood regulation and cognitive function.

In addition to promoting health, the event showcased the sustainability of fermentation as a natural food preservation method. Participants learned simple techniques for preparing fermented foods at home, encouraging a shift away from processed foods toward natural, nutrient-rich alternatives.

Overall, the festival fostered healthier dietary habits among students and staff while raising awareness about the environmental and health benefits of fermented foods.
